I am highly interested in interactive technologies and their applications to solve societal issues.
For my master's thesis I conducted an in-depth research exploring the use of interactive technologies like AI and VR for mindfulness-based mental health treatment for children.
The core question my thesis attempted to answer was: How can interactive technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality be used to deliver effective mindfulness-based interventions for the treatment of children with anxiety in Ireland.
A comprehensive two part literature review and primary research comprising of in-depth semi-structured interviews was conducted with experts from various related fields i.e. senior specialist psychologists from HSE, interaction designers and business owners from the technology industry. The primary research data was then analysed and evidence was presented with regard to the scope of these technologies in the given area of study. The research also highlighted best practices and considerations to be made when designing and implementing mindfulness-based interventions for treating anxiety in children, using these technologies.
